Tips for making a room look bigger

  1. white paint. simple and the most effective way in making a space feel bigger. always pair with warmer elements to equalize, but having a clean slate for natural light to bounce off of is crucial. when painting your walls white we also recommend keeping it the same color as the ceiling to create a blur effect with little visible edging. THis creates a cloud like effect making the room feel spacious and taller.

  2. ditch the drapes (and rugs if possible) most people don’t even feel comfortable with the sound of that. But can be super beneficial for certain rooms. It also allows more natural light to showcase your flooring and rooms. If you do use drapes, make em’ breezy. Find ones that let light flow through.

3. Keep low profiles. don't buy bulky furniture, cabinetry, baseboard, etc. keep your elements slim and clean to eliminate a bulky feel. modernista says, Furniture that is lower to the ground will create a feeling of openness in a room simply by the fact that they leave more space above them. In the bedroom, choose a loft bed or even try placing a mattress directly on the floor. In the living room, embrace your inner Mad Men style with low-to-the-ground midcentury pieces. Or, if your tastes run more toward the romantic and ornate, 19th-century furniture also has a low profile.

4. little legs with furniture. Sounds miniscule and unimportant but you'd be surprised by the difference it makes when all other tips are utilized. Again, creating the illusion of more space is all about creating a sense of openness and movement.

5. No matter what discussion you have regarding small spaces there’s always one word, mirrors. Not only will they reflect natural light in your living space, but they reflect other areas of the home thus creating the false reality that the space is bigger.

6. utilize the horizontal and vertical elements. whether it’s tile, accent pieces or shiplap, these all make the room feel longer/taller. Not only does it increase the sense of openness but it can also add some great texture/appeal to the room.
